When we are getting ready for our trip it’s generally in the triple digits in Texas and in Colorado the highs are in the mid-70s. That’s why it’s great to have a list (and continue to add to it while you’re there because you will see something you wished you had brought with you). Regardless, one of the most important things to remember when packing for Colorado is to bring layers. Because the weather can vary so dramatically your best bet is to layer up. Of course, if you are staying where you can wash your clothes, it makes it easier to pack so you don’t have to bring as much. The other thing to keep in mind is that Colorado is very casual – the more casual you dress the more you’ll fit in. Colorado is not the place for your

I’ll never forget the first time Jason and I went to Crested Butte. We were such novices at packing for this kind of trip. Neither one of us had hiking shoes – just running shoes – and didn’t incorporate some of the necessary accessories that make life much easier in the mountains (a camelbak, rain jacket, and wool socks to name a few). Of course, you can buy all of this stuff once you get there but it’ll come at a premium. If you can’t afford to go on a shopping spree for a trip to Colorado, then have your list and buy things sporadically when you can watch for things to go on sale.

So, here’s our ever-changing packing list: Packing for Colorado. Feel free to save it for your own use.
